The Pioneer Valley Landform Observatory is a collaborative project between major academic and state institutions, including UMass Amherst and the Massachusetts State Geologist. To complement the physical observatory site at Mt. Pollux, the partnership needed a digital platform to host deep geological data and visual resources. The goal was to create a field-ready companion that allows visitors to bridge the gap between the physical landscape and the complex tectonic history of Western Massachusetts.
Solution
WP New England developed a specialized WordPress platform designed for both on-site observation and remote research. We organized the regional geological data into categories based on cardinal directions, mirroring the physical signage visitors encounter in the field. The site integrates VR photo galleries and an extensive resource library to support academic field trips and public education. By building a structured, intuitive interface, we provided a professional digital home for this multi-institutional partnership.
